The Elephant Man
This pointillism of Joseph Merrick (The "Elephant Man") turned to be my favorite design to work on during the semester. In order for it to resemble the original photograph of Merrick, I used varying sizes of dots and spacing for the worn-out textures of the image. To be honest, I feel that the contrast appears to reflect the original photo's "dated" nature the most. I intended for this piece to pay tribute to the man and express the hidden beauty of his surreal appearance. In summary, Kant is the aesthetic philosophy, and it is representational of the Joseph Merrick. As for the iconography, dots make up the entirety of the image. They serve as the building blocks of the image.
The photograph that inspired this design was taken in the late-1800s. What I saw in the photo, I used as the aesthetic for the piece. I found the finished product to be a decent work of art. I'm very proud of how it turned out.
